The "Hand-Lettered" Series

[Wilder Hall]

History

Frankly, I didn't know what to label these cards; they are distinctly similar, but unnumbered and the publisher is not identified. So I elected to call them the "hand-lettered" series, since each photo has a neatly lettered caption underneath it. The postally-used cards I have in this series are dated 1920 and 1921.

The Images

All cards are available with both front and back scans, and comments about what is written on the front or back, either by the user or by the publisher, are included below.

front "Field Memorial Gateway, Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass."
back Undivided back, postmarked Jun 14, 1921 ?am in Stamford, CT. Blurred purple counterstamp. "Dear Grace I wish you could have come back to this reunion for it's being the best ever - I'm going to write you all about it. The campus is beautiful Have you seen this gateway? Lots of love. Got Mother's fine letter and - thanks for it. Money holding out very well. Wonder if Father is having a party? Love, Hattie." Addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Edgar L. Spaulding.

Student Alumnae Hall
front "Student Alumnae Hall. Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Mass."
back Divided back, cancelled but no city postmark. "Tues. Dear Family, I have only this card wherefore S. A. H. forces itself upon you. Nothing specially interesting happened today. This evening along with my other little jobs I had a rather long meeting of the Editors of Pegasus. It was boring and I was glad when it ended. My leg is much better today and in fact I feel quite spry. I danced with Mead's trickiest dancer tonight and it went fine - still a bit stiff but otherwise O.K.! Rain again today - it's almost a daily occurence now! Always, Alice."
