A Letter Written on Sep 23, 1954

Thursday

Dear Mother,

Just got your letter and it seems you did a lot of unnecessary shopping. Mary has a laundry rack and an alarm clock and I bought a cup. However, if you have already sent them it is O.K. I can sell the rack and use the clock. It will be good to have. I have a blotter on order at the C.I. [College Inn] so you don't have to send Carsten's.

Classes start tomorrow. I got my English books today - about $9 for 5 of them. I discovered that we can charge things at the bookstore so will charge all books and then make out one check. I also got an emblem for my jacket.

Saw Nancy Holton & her mother for a minute yesterday. This morning we went on a tour of the campus and it really is beautiful. I'm sure Smith has nothing to compare with the view from Prospect Hill.

Saturday night we're going to Amherst for a Freshman mixer. Should be fun.

It's almost time for lunch so I have to wait tables.

Love,
Liz
