A Letter Written on Mar 6, 1955

Sunday afternoon

Dear Mom & Dad,

This has been a weekend of getting caught up on odds & ends. Sally Dumper & I went to a house dance at Theta Xi last night. I went with Tom M. & fixed Sal up with Dick Dirks. It was a nice evening. Other than that, I've really been working. Tonight the choir is singing at a communion service in the chapel.

S.G.A. elections were held this past week & Nan Holton was elected Vice-president. The president is Arlene Bailey, my P.O. Box room-mate & now president of junior class.

Monday was Mary Lyon's birthday & we had "Deacon Porter's Hat" for dessert. It's a traditional thing - sort of a chocolate cake only very light & shaped just like a top hat. Mr. Ham spoke on M. Lyon's life in chapel Tues. A.M.

Wed. A.M. we had a horrible Art blue book. The worst I've had up here. Friday we had a Psych exam which was also terrible. This was the week for tough exams. I got a 3 on my Math blue book last week but so many people failed it that she gave a make-up for anyone who wanted to try it, saying she'd count the higher mark of the two. I think I did much better on the make-up but it's hard to tell.

Othello at Amherst was excellent last week. They have a very fine theater group & put on about 3 productions a year. We read Othello later on in the semester so I was glad to see it.

Glad to hear Heiberg's had a good trip. Say "hi" to Karin when you see her for me.

Got a letter Tuesday from Mr. Rose asking when I would let him know definitely. I wrote him the very next day & asked for a little more money. Said just about what you suggested & submitted it to almost everyone on the floor for approval before mailing it. I have a feeling the letter will either make or break my chances with him. Also wrote Nancy Savage - sort of blamed it on you - said my parents wanted me to have varied experience as far as summer jobs were concerned. I didn't think you'd mind too terribly.

Guess that's all for now. Time for supper & I have dishes.

Love,
Liz
