A Letter Written on Apr 24, 1955

Sunday P.M.

Dear Mom & Dad,

Please pardon the fancy writing paper. I'm out of any other & haven't been to the store lately to get any more.

Saw Quiz Bowl kinds lose to Syracuse last night. Too bad - they put up a good fight.

In answer to your question about Mr. Rose - got a letter April 12th merely confirming the job & saying I would need tetanous shots or a booster. But my shots for Europe are still O.K. aren't they? Thought I'd better find out for sure before writing him. It was a very informal letter & just signed "Aaron". Of course I've gotten lots of ribbing about that.

Also - my red cross instructors is valid for only two years & then must be renewed so it doesn't matter if I teach or not this summer. But I do think he plans to use me for a little swimming anyway.

Hope Tom had a good birthday & got the card. They have the most horrible selection of cards up here. All hearts & flowers or else modern very riské & I think ugly.

I forgot to tell you in my last letter - I got a German & English dictionary - $5. The only kind they had was with that German print but it is a good one - (Funk & Wagnalls) & I haven't had any trouble reading things. Perhaps that will inspire me to learn that German alphabet as we don't use it in class.

Jo Prescott's parents were up this weekend. She was in Water Ballet & they came up now instead of Parents' Weekend. Water Ballet was really great. I think I'll try out next year.

Tomorrow at 8 A.M. we draw numbers for dorms. By Tuesday we'll know our dorm & room. We want to get into either Mead or Pearsons but will count ourselves very lucky if we do.

I spent the evening on the class books. They have to be audited by May 1st & I've put it off about as long as I possibly can.

This past week has really been a busy one. This O. C. Publicity is shaping up into quite a job. We have to put out newsletter by this Wednesday & I have board meetings twice a week month from 9-11. In addition, we are automatically members of Publicity Board which meets twice a month also. In connection with that, I had the charming job of typing 22 copies of the daily bulletin every day for a week. Thank goodness the week ends tomorrow!

Crew canoeing has been getting me up early in the mornings. We're still shifting the crews around & I'm afraid I won't have time to stay in it, though.

I was just elected one of three sophomore representatives on S.G.A. nominating committee for next year. It's going to be an interesting job & one in which I'll get to know a lot of people.

The big thing of the moment for me is my critical paper for English. 15-20 pages & due next Monday. I got a fair start on it this weekend & should have it finished in good time - barring the unexpected.

Guess I forgot to tell you - the package arrived the Monday after my birthday. Thanks for everything - especially the brownies! Which reminds me - I haven't written to Aunt Hattie. Tell her I will when I get a chance.

I still have math to do for tomorrow so I'd better get at it.

Love,
Liz
