A Letter Written on Jul 13, 1955

Camp Chateaugay
Merrill, N.Y.

Wednesday

Dear Mom & Dad,

I wrote a letter to Aunt Hat last night and just about wrote myself out. I came up with a brilliant idea so she will be forwarding that letter to you soon. I hope you don't mind.

Everything here is just fine. Chateaugay is the most wonderful place and as I said in that letter I'd love to come back next year as things stand now. Of course I won't commit myself in any way even if I'm given the chance.

The kids are given all sorts of freedom as far as program goes. There are two morning activities. One is swimming and the other is arranged by means of preference lists which the kids, themselves, decide upon. In the afternoon they may go to any one of a dozen or so activities as individuals rather than as a cabin group as in the morning. This is followed by a general swim for the whole camp. Evenings are occupied by such things as baseball games - the boys and girls each have a league - followed by all-camp, unit or cabin activities. These are also requested by the campers or arranged by the staff like an all-camp campfire.

There are a few things I'd like you to bring when you come up - Tom's canteen & poncho; my white heels & blue sheath dress (the one I just made) as there is a dressy banquet the last night of camp - also my little white sweater; my green print skirt (the one to the sundress) and the yellow sleeveless blouse I wear with it - we wear skirts to Friday night services; and my green cardigan sweater; also a jacket - I thought of Tom's gray plaid one if possible - it gets cold up here now at night and will be worse in August, so they say. I'll probably think of other things & will let you know.

Guess that's it for now. Write letters & see you the 25th.

Love,
Liz
