Camp Chateaugay
Merrill, N.Y.Thursday
Dear Mom & Dad,
Your letter of Tuesday evening arrived today. I guess the mail service isn't so bad after all. It was good to hear from you & I also enjoyed the thought behind Dad's card. But a picture of Syracuse! Really!
The kids have been here just about a week now and wenew counselors are just about oriented to camp. The kids didnt have many problems in this direction as most of them have been coming to Chateaugay several years. Did I tell you that one of my kids was at Onanda last summer?
We took our first hike today - to a very nice place on Upper Lake - about five miles round trip. The spot was very nice - a possible place for a canoe trip some day off. The kids took sandwiches and went swimming later on in the afternoon. Although there were complaints of tired feet, etc, "a good time was had by all."
Tuesday was my first day off but since no one with a car was off we just took a boat trip out to the sand bar and had a picnic lunch there. It was a relief just to get away from the kinds. However on my next day off I'd really like to get away. I was talking today to one of the kids - (Ann Hatch, by the way - her family is at Park Central - she has a younger brother there) - about a hike to Tanager Lodge where Ellie & Nancy are. Her brother is a camper there. We're also making plans to climb some mountains.
Things have been working out O.K. on the waterfront - no clashes so far. I wrote to Carsten & Müllers - also dropped Tom a card.
I was glad to see Joyce's picture - although I didn't think it was very flattering.
By the way, when you come up could you bring Tom's poncho and his canteen (he did have one, didn't he?) If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
Love,
LizP.S.
The weather has been simply gorgeous - warm & sunny with only a little rain and then at night.
