TuesdayDear Mom & Dad,
Today was another of those "most horrible days in the life of the college student". The economics and physiology departments of this college must have some fiendish pact as they always give their bleu books on the same day - without fail. I'm afraid I didn't do spectacturlarly [sic] well on either as they were both, I thought, very hard but we'll see. I've about resigned myself to having to work for 3's for the rest of this year - anyway.
Saw Mrs. Fudge Thursday night at the Lab Theater production. Mally was elected president of Dramatic Club in case you hadn't heard. She said you were considering driving up with her - wish you could have made it as you have never seen the place in normal action [Parents' Weekend is not normal.]. Also saw Mrs. Hoton Friday P.M. & met the minister. He seemed awfully nice.
Also received enclosed invitation to M.H. Tea. [no longer with the letter] Do you want me to RSVP for both of us? I won't be home for it but you may want to go(?). Or perhaps you could just call Mrs. Davenport. Let me know if you want me to write her.
I have been nominated for Vice-Pres. of Outing Club & after much deliberation, decided to accept. I've had enough of class & SGA & I think this is the organization I'd really like to devote my spare time to. As for decisions on major - think, as of now, I'll put down religion tenatively [sic] with another history course next year as a saftey [sic] valve - if I decide by the middle of next year that religion is not for me, I can switch to history without too much trouble. I'll tell you all about it when I get home.
I can see how you could be confused about all my activities. Actually [in answer to your last letter] I took in both the square dance and the ski-weekend. They were different weekends. As a matter of fact, I met a very nice guy from Yale at the square dance & he's coming up this Sat. Friday night a gang of us are going to spend at the cabin - sort of a pre-vacation fling of sophomores in the dorm.
I've been thinking of taking a single room next year - haven't decided definitely but it would be nice for one year anyway.
As for the ski trip - we're leaving here Wed. afternoon & driving up to North Conway, N.H. We plan to leave for home Tues. A.M. [March. 27th[ - I haven't heard from Irene yet, but if she can't come up then, I'll probably take a bus from Springfield - unless I can prevail upon Edgy to drive through Albany. Otherwise, I'll drive to Philly with Edge & come up home with Irene [Wed?] - [in which case I might not make Sue's wedding which is 7 P.M. Wed]. As you can see, much hinges on Irene but if I haven't heard in a day or so I'll RSVP to Sue that I'm coming [wedding & reception].
Money - hate to mention it, but - - - We're planning to stay at a cheap ski lodge - bring your own sleeping bags, etc. & perhaps cook a few of our own meals - washing dishes for a few others - at least over the weekend when it's crowded. Gas costs will be small as there are five of us - even so, the least we figure on is $35 for the 5 days and 6 nights - including ski tows, etc. One problem - I now have $20 in the bank and also - that $35 won't get me home to Syracuse. If I can borrow $25, I'll be fine. Time card money may come out before then, but I can't count on it. I hadn't realized exactly how much money this would involve but I still think it's well worth it.
Also - I need a note from you to the Dean of Residence saying - I can drive to North Conway, N.H. with Mary Edgerton on March 21 - mere formalities.
Guess that's all for now - Write if any questions & send the permission as soon as possible. I'll keep you posted.
Love,
Liz
