A Letter Written on Apr 8, 1956

Sunday night

Dear Mom and Dad,

Sunday night and nothing terrifically exciting has happened. Today was the Sunday for Easter music in church and we put on quite a show - the chancel was full (with four extra rows of chairs) of the freshmen and sophomore choirs and the Princeton Glee Club was in the balcony. They put on a program with the M.H. Glee Club this afternoon and so they also sang in the morning service. There was only one trouble - there were more people in the chancel than there were in the entire congregation. But then, we had three inches of snow on the ground this morning so no wonder.

Been trying to work out my next semester and senior year schedules and have planned them out tentatively. I have an appointment with my advisor Wed. and may change it some after that but so far here it is:

It's easier for you to look these courses up in the catalogue than for me to try to explain them. Please note - German 202 2nd Semester of senior year is the course I never completed this year. History 257 & 258 Junior year is taught by Mr. Viereck who has been on sabbatical year but will return next year and is supposed to be really tops. History 297 Senior year is a seminar with Mr. Leonard, the man I know have for history - the one I like so much. The idea of auditing courses is also tentative - depending upon Mr. Tamblyn, my advisor. This involves only attending the class - no blue books, outside work, exams (or credit) involved and so should take only three hours a week which I can certainly spare, especially since I will have no labs or gym classes after this year. Enough of this. If you find any additions or anything, let me know. Even after I hand in the slip I can easily change any subjects except for those of first semester, next year and I can change those with only a little trouble.

Had a very nice letter from Joyce the other day. They're now living in Essex, Conn. and Jim is going into the insurance business. The expect the baby in August and of course are very excited about it.

We took a Hygiene exemption exam yesterday morning to get us out of taking the course which is pretty much of a repeat on Physiology but is required. Nobody did much of the reading but it didn't seem too hard. We shall see, in any event one can take it more than once.

I had lunch (dinner) in the French House today with Mary Rintoul. It was an English speaking meal but next time I shall have to try out my rather rusty French. Mary was disappointed that you're not going to be up for Parents' Day but said you can stay at their place when you come up in June if Bowies' isn't convenient. No need to decide now.

Wrote to Gudrun today. No word from Irene so I asked Gudrun about her.

Finished the Ec. paper yesterday and it was actually fun to write. I've been in the typing business recently. Typed a twenty-page paper and a ten page one in addition to my seven page ec paper - all in the past three days. Great at the rate of 20 cents a page.

Guess that's about it for now.

Love,
Liz

P.S.
Please pardon typ- errors. I'm sick of striving for perfection in every page after all those papers.

Spring arrived Thursday, stayed two days & then left abruptly. Conditions are so wintry that the minister from Williams who was scheduled to preach today couldn't make it & they had to find a quick substitute - who happened to be Mr. Tamblyn, my advisor.
