Sunday night
Dear Mom & Dad,
Glad you have made some sort of decision on Tom's college. It's easier to work hard when you have something really concrete - like Colgate - to work for, than when you're just trying to get into a college. And my feeling on colleges is that no matter where you go, if you get out on the right foot & go at it with the right attitude, you're bound to like it. And if you really like it you'll do well. Best of luck to him & don't worry, things will work out in the end.
Things sure worked out well for me this weekend. Les came up for the Cleveland Symphony Fri. night - it was very good, as usual. Sat. we skiied [sic] at a little rope tow area near Greenfield & I think it was one of the few spots with any snow at all. It started to rain about 3 but we had had a full day by then & were ready to quit anyway. No lines for lifts which was wonderful. He had a date at Smith late Sat. night so I got a good night's sleep & got lots done today. Tonight the Tanglewood string quartette is presenting a concert which should be excellent.
My knee didn't hinder my skiing at all. The doctor said exercise was good for it & approved the skiing plans. It's still a bit sore but by next week at this time I should be as good as new.
Nothing yet from Mr. Shanker of Camp Hillcroft.
Classes this semester show promise of being very interest. Canterbury Tales are fun to read. We're doing the Knight's Tale now & it's so exciting that I really begrudge the time it takes to look up words & figure out the Middle English. Actually, it isn't hard - just takes time as we're really doing close reading.
In Shakespeare so far we've read "All's Well that Ends Well" & "Twelfth Night". This is another paper-a-week-course - but we're limited to one page, thank goodness.
First short story is due next Monday. This has me stumped at the moment but the first is always the hardest.
Don't worry about my rest. I discovered during exams how nice it is to get a good night's sleep every night & I plan to continue the practice. So far, so good.
Concert was great - Mozart, Schuman [sic] & Faure String Quartets.
Love,
Liz
