Dear Lucy:-

Will write just a short letter to congratulate you, and wish you many happy returns of the day. Wonder how you will celebrate it. By teaching my relative's ideas how to shoot I suppose. Think by what you say it will take considerable time and patience before he will be able to hit the mark.

As you know I came here last Friday I missed you at Springfield and had to eat my lunch all alone. Got here about 3:15 and Cousin Lizzie was at the station to meet me. Fred started on his vacation Wednesday, a week ago to-day. You see he had to get off and get rested up for what was coming (that was me.) Hard lines isn't it. Well he is at the Catskill Mountains and reports he is having a fine time, so it isn't so bad. Have not been having very pleasant weather since I came. Yesterday was warm and muggy[.] If it clears off we are going to Coney Island this afternoon. And are planning to take a trip up the Hudson some day. I suppose they had a fine time at the cattle show, but have not heard. Had a card from Mary with a comical picture on it[.]

She went to the station with me and was feeling pretty well I thought for she would practice the five step every time the station agent went out.

I hope to get your girdle done this week if we stay at home long enough. I had to make it with little welts after all, as it was not full enough so but what the stitches would show the other way. If it is too large take up another little welt on each side of the front; if too small let out one on each side. Should have finished it before but stopped to make Lizzie one, so she could wear it last Sunday. Did not get it done, but so it would do. Finished it Monday.

I enclose few illustrations [no longer with the letter] of the new waltz you and Mary will have to learn next summer. How do you think you and the Prof. will look. I dont think they "glide steady" all the time do you. You can send it to Mary after you get the idea.

Lizzie sends love.

With lots of love
