A Letter Written on May 4, 1908

[The letter your was postmarked in May, so the letter writer probably just wrote the date wrong. There are many misspellings in the letter and I didn't flag each one with "sic" in order to make the rest of the letter more readable.]

April 4 1908

Dear Miss Backer

I was very glad to received your nice letter am allways glad to heare from you[.]

Was very glad to know that you are some better you were not able to work fore some time before you were through up to New Salem & you done so much for me when I was not well you were so kind all of the of the people were I have not felt as well since I was sick I was so hard sick & went to work to soon but Mr Felton was sick for a few days & Mrs F_ had the head ache & I tryed to do all I could thare is a great deal to do hear & I have been in the ladies degree staff in the Grange & that takes time to prctice & is hard work to me worked the third degree last tuesday night & I told them I should not do it any more or I was working so hard I can not stand it.

Mr Felton & intended to drive up to New Salem last Saterday but the driveing horse was lame if he is so we can use him will go next Saterday we want to go to Ware tomorrow I want something to weare on my head & I think I will have a long coat a light one dont think I shall have much this spring

did you see the acount in the paper of the tearable acedent Mr Bishop & Miss Weston were killed it was the worst thing that has ever hapend round hear there has been a good man deaths in Greenwich & Enfield this Winter & Spring

I am glad your sister is so well I had a nice letter from Mr Taylor a few days ago they have bought a home they are very happy that is nice

I am glad that Miss Bliss came up to see you when I came up to Orange I shall try to come over & see you will let you know

Say I have not got a picture of Miss Backer yet

a year ago we were holding forth in New Salem the time goes fast I suppose they will have theyer new building in the fall

Mrs Cogswell is better dont know as she is well how is the little lily mine had 12 blossoms this Spring Well it is time little girls were in bed write soon
