Dear Lucy,
How do you enjoy the weather? It is surely winter. I was glad to hear that you reached N.S. comfortably and found a fire and good supper. I got home all right. I was a little afraid I should be "tight" when I got home, for after all those men got on the car smelled so of liquor that I was afraid it would be too much for me. I have been to Gardner today. I had an appointment with Dr. Jewett at eleven and the car was late so that it was nearly twelve when I got there: but he put in my new gold tooth, so now I have two and may load the revolver to protect them. Then I did some errands, one of them being to buy Uncle Isaac some flannels: but could not find what I wanted. I got home at 3-20 or near that and feel tired and sleepy.
It was the afternoon for the Wellington Club but of course I did not get home in season for that and of course felt badly about it. Carrie did not find time to go, (she had to sweep the parlor,) and I am afraid Betsy will think we neglected her. We sent waists and girdle today - Carrie says the girdle fastens on the right side - the lower edge is a little longer than the upper and it will spoil the shape of it, if you put it on wrong side up. Carrie admires the silk very much and said she should like a waist like it. I think I will write to Emma and send her a piece of it and see if she can get enough for a waist like it, and if you like we will all give it to her: then we can each give her a trifle besides, if we wish. Mary has a handkerchief for her. I should only get some little thing and it would not be necessary to do that. Write what you think, but remember that she sees my letters.
I could not mend the waists to look nicely, but you can not wear them much more, the silk is about worn out and the lawn is getting that way. There is nothing new to write so will stop. I hope you are over your cold and feeling well. The days are so short that I can not get anything done. Mary is trying to make a picture book and Carrie is still knitting.
Much love,
Mama.Take good care of yourself and go to bed early.
