A Letter Written on May 9, 1906

[Some paragraph marks added for ease of reading.]

Templeton, May 9, 1906.

Dear Lucy,

As I am going to send this postal to you, I will write a few lines and call it my weekly, (or weakly) letter. I am afraid you don't attend to your correspondence very well, but Miss Lane intends to look out for you Well, there is not much to write, of course. We did not go to W_r Mon. but did go yesterday and had a fine day for it. Ada went with us and bought herself a new black suit_ it was a very pretty suit but there was another that I hoped she would take: it was much more stylish looking (I thought) and did not look so nearly like what she had worn for so long - it would cost $7 or $8 more, but I think Warren would rather have paid the difference - I am sure he would if he liked it better: and as long as there is only two of them I think they might do as they like. But this suit that she bought is pretty, and all right, so as long as it is not my business, I will not make any more remarks.

She told me something that will interest you if you have not already heard of it: I think you knew that she had a diary that was Dr. Loring's_ she looked that over and found two or three places where Dr. L_ put down that he had paid board and room to date: and the diary was for 1884 and some items in it marked as late as 1886. Warren took it up to Mr. Bodgett and probably that will make it easier to settle that bill. She did not say whether she decided to compromise or not and I did not like to ask her.

I bought white muslin & white lawn for Mary's dress & slip, elastics, flannel & hair ribbon for her so she can have a little more than a fan & stockings for that night. I also bought a piece of light-colored goods which I mean to make a suit for Mary, when I get time. I did not see any thing I thought you would like and so did not get any thing for you. I thought we should not make it for some weeks and perhaps we may find just the thing before that.

We made a short call on Esther, not quite more than an hour, and got home at 8-15, rather tired but all right. This is a pretty wet day for the conference. Mr. & Mrs. Gray came home Mon. Had sent your collar &c. before I got your letter.

Must stop, much love,
Mama.

We are altering Mary's pink dress sleeves. Carrie sends love.
