[Some paragraph marks added for ease of reading.]Templeton, Mass.,
March. 1, 1903.Dear Lucy:-
I have arrived at the dignity of a Sunday School teacher. Teachers were few and far between to-day so Cousin Francis asked me to take the infant class. I had a great time. None of the boys knew their lesson and Burdill had lost her card. There were only Burdill Harold Seaver, John and Joe in the class. Burdill told all about her garden. The lesson was about seeds growing so I suppose that put it into her head. We do not have Sunday School again until April 12.
I made a marble cake, two loaves of brown bread & a bowl of apple sauce. I
anwas suprised [sic] when I read your letter. I didn't know a thing about your inviting Fred. What do you mean by acting like this? Has he been over to call yet? I suppose you would have been walking around the grounds now if Fred hadn't been afraid you would catch cold and if the "faculty" didn't get after you. How long has this been going on?Friday the periods were changed around some & one of Miss Howe's classes thought she ought to be in one room and another in another[.] She was hearing a chemistry class & Bret Montague came down to see where she ought to be. She was hearing the right class, & Mr. Osbourne suprised [sic] us all by saying to Bret just as he was going out of the room, "Tell Miss Howe that she is all right." We laughed but Mr. Osborne didn't[.] Friday this appeared on our board[:]

in the lower hall.(I suppose that Bates goes with Bertha McGee.) Bates has history in our room on Fridays and as he didn't come in until rather late, the rest of the class saw it and when he came in everybody laughed. He laughed and when he went down the aisle he saw it. He kind of laughed but his face got awfully red and I think he was awfully mad. At recess some of the girls took Bertha McGee in to see it. At first she said that as he had seen it and didn't erase it she wouldn't but she finally did. That's the way we act down at school[.]
With love,
Mary
