A Letter Written on Oct 22, 1905

Dear Lucy:-

We were very glad to receive your letter.

My school did not keep Friday as there was a state convention at Concord.

We have five teachers this year instead of four as there are so many scholars there being one hundred and seven. I recite to four of the teachers. I like them very well except the Latin teacher. She doesn't seem to know much about Latin and she acts so silly. I take French, English, Geometry and Latin. I like Geometry and French very much. I think French is much easier than Latin. I wish you was [sic] one of the teachers.

We have been having company. My uncle and aunt from Montpelier, Vermont came a week ago Friday and went to Boston last Thursday, then they were going home yesterday.

The last of September we went to Mr. Hutchinson's to their fifteenth anniversary. Their relation and the neighbors went. We had a very nice time. There were chinese lanterns in front of the house.

Addie went back Wednesday the twenty seventh of September. Her neck was healed. She said that Frances came over to see her in the evening.

There are not many chestnuts this years. [sic] I went after some a week ago yesterday but I didn't didn't find only forty.

The cider mill opened Monday. Quite a number of scholars come up afternoons to it.

It seems odd on the hill now as the farther woods are cut and half of those side of the road.

I should be glad to hear from you when you have time to write.

Mamma sends her love to you.

With love
from Bertha
