Milford N.H.
Dec. 3, 1905.Dear Miss Baker:
As it is raining and we aren't going to church I will write a few lines.
How are you getting along with your school? I hope you are getting alone alright. I like my school very much, and my teacher too. We have 23 scholars. One of them is an Italian boy. He couldn't speak any English when he first came here but now he can talk quite a lot of English. He reads in the 1st reader. We had Thanksgiving exercises in our school. Wednesday. We have elected officers. Harold is secretary, and I am vice-president. On Halloween night we had a little party[.] We had a luncheon and played games. Some of them took pillow cases, and sheets.
Did you have a good time Thanksgiving? Addie came home. She has had to have another operation on her neck. She went down to Nashua Friday and had the operation but was so weak at night that the doctor didn't dare to have her come home. Mamma went down again yesterday, but it was so damp she didn't come home, and is there now. I don't know if she can come to-morrow or not. I hoep she will. We had aunt Annie, Lizzie, Helene, the two grandmas, and my uncle at Thanksgiving.
Mr. Jordan, the old gentleman that lives across the road, died suddenly five weeks ago to-night with apoplexy. Mrs. Jordan has gone to live with her daughter in Waltham. They have rented the house to a Portuguese man, and his wife and wife's cousin. The man can talk English but the others can't. They are real quiet and seem to be good folks.
I have been sick with grippe but am all right now except a cold.
We all send our love, and hope you are enjoying your school.
Ever your friend,
Helen E. Fitch.
