Northampton, Mass.,
Feb. 17, 1906.My Dear Miss Baker,
At a Conference of College teachers of Greek held late in October, the undersigned Committee was appointed to arrange for a Conference of all the Classical teachers in New England, with a view to the formation of a New England Classical Association.
A short time ago a letter of information was sent to those Classical teachers whose names were accessible to us. Enclosed was a sheet with a list of questions which we wished answered and returned to us. We have already received replies from about 250 teachers who will try to attend the proposed Conference, and who wish to become members of a New England Classical Association. The time and place of meeting cannot yet be definitely decided.
As we have not received a reply from you, we fear that our previous letter failed to reach you. Will you, therefore, please fill out the enclosed blank and send it, at your earliest convenience, to that member of the Committee whose name is underlined?
If you so request, we will send you a copy of the previous letter.
Yours sincerely,
Allen R. Benner, Phillips Academy, Andover, (Mass.), Greek
Julia H. Caverno, Smith College, Greek
Charles U. Clark, Yale University, Latin
Charles B. Gulick, Harvard University, Greek
George E. Howes, (Chairman), Williams College, Greek and Latin
Harley Roberts, Taft School, Watertown (Conn.), Latin.[Evidently she was not interested in being a member of the New England Classical Association at that time, because the blank was still with the letter.]
