[Some paragraph breaks added for ease of reading]Templeton, Mass.,
April 16, 1906.Dear Sister:-
If I were sure that you were coming home Fri. I shouldn't write such a very long letter & circumstances may prevent my writing one anyway. There is an Easter concert over at the other church to-night at quarter past six & Auntie & I are going. Probably Lucius will go too. We have got him real nicely trained. I went up to the Post Office last night and - he came home with me. I was mad enough to fire something at him. He don't seem to be able to take a hint or else he don't want to.
A Mr. Locke preached to-day & he delivered a dandy sermon. It was long but there was something to it. He is a middle-aged man so you see he wasn't so interesting to the young people. Mrs. Bourn & Auntie trimmed the church & it looked fine. They sent down to Mr. Johnson for East lilies & he didn't have enough so he sent to Athol for them. He sent up two from his own greenhouse & said if the others came all right he would come up after those two. But the others came & he didn't so they put them down front & thought if he came this A.M.
theyhe could get them but he never came at all so we had the benefit of them & they were beauties too. The society bought some pinks & some marguerites. Auntie said she had a regular fight to have the pinks on the pulpit but she got them there. Mrs. Bourn sent Mama half a dozen pinks & some marguerites. They are lovely.Walter & Herbert Wright were at church to-day but I didn't see them to speak to. Mrs. Giffin has got back. Helen & Dorothy said yesterday they were going to church to-day just to see Mrs Henry Wright come in late with some new clothes on
e& then she didn't come so they went all for nothing. Wasn't it a shame it rained so? It has cleared off nice for to-night. I wore my brown suit & rain coat to church. I wasn't going to get my red suit soaked. Auntie took her asparagus fern & some hyacinths up yesterday so we had those to bring home. Her fern was a great addition. It was put right in front & things wouldn't have been half so pretty without it. The organ didn't give out for a wonder. Herbert Maynard was at church & behaved remarkably well. Mr. Locke spoke to the S.S. so they had no lessons.Mama wants me to tell you that she enjoyed her Easter letter very much. Auntie wanted me to thank you for the postal you sent her. And I thank you very much for mine. I was duly surprised. (It is after supper now.[)] Auntie & I started out to go to an Easter concert at the other church but when we had got part way across the Common we met Beulah & Rena who told us that there was no concert on account of the rain. They said that no-body hardly knew that it was postponed so quite a number had come. It was announced at the other church in the A.M. but it was so rainy that very likely there were not such a great many present. Even some of the children went expecting to "concert."
Auntie & I thought that as long as we were all rigged up we would go somewhere so we went to cousin Minnie's. They had all been up to Mrs. Fisher's to dinner. Cousin Minnie introduced us to the hired girl & said that I was "Carl's Mary". That is the name I go by in that family & I don't quite know as I like it. There were a number of fellows out on the store steps both when we went & when we came back & I thought probably Lucius was one of them. But wonder of wonders he hasn't appeared.
Auntie gave me a very pretty handkerchief & a card & Cousin Emma sent me a little chicken made of cotton stuck on an Easter card. It is awfully cute. Sat. Bessie & I carried around some plants which we got at the greenhouse Fri. We carried one down to Mrs. Seavers & nothing must do but Hiram must show us the other part of his house which he has painted & papered for a tenant. It looked nice there but dreadfully in the other part.
It seemed a little hard to go back to school Tues. Carrie is pretty well. Tues it rained & when I counted there weren't but 21 seniors there. Gregory has hurt his knee again & they say he will have to lay abed for 3 weeks. I think he is having hard luck. Miss Barres [?] had bronchitis so we had a substitute this week - a Miss Dexter. We liked her but I don't believe she had taught before and once in Greek I saw her book shaking, as you can sympathize. Latin I got some pinks & sent to Miss B_[.]
We had a terrible time getting any body to write a card. Dwight told Underwood to write one. U- said "I can't write." Johnson turned around quick as a flash, "Can you read?" I have spoken [to] the ["]Chameleon" & got through it all right. I had a hoarse spell purpose for it. I wrote my essay & then found somebody had taken the same subject for last Wed so I had to write another. I hope to see you soon. Shall I sign? How is Jack? How is the C.O.G.? Poor Howard. Hows Dorothy?
With love
MollyI saw George & Eveline LeClair last night. G- can't speak out loud. Mrs. Hill "wobbled" pitifully to-day.
Poor Mr. 'Heels' all in the serade. [?]
Seems to me your [sic] having a good many young men
