Templeton, Mass
Sept. 11, 1906.Dear Lucy:-
I presume I shall be hearing from you, if I don't write soon.
My woes are numerous. The painters are here. and the flies they have let in. My one and only pride this summer was that I was flyless, and now - the slaughter has been great, but still they remain, and there name is Legion.
Andrew has pulled the old shed down, and is going to build a smaller one. Sufficient to protect wood and coal, which the old one wouldn't do.
We have all been sick with a summer trouble. Of course Jessie was the worst. I was sick for a week. Jessie cut three teeth at once. and another one is almost through making seven in all.
I think I shall have another music pupil. Madeliene Reed Geroge French's step-daughter.
I presume you have heard the new name of the Winch baby. Cresa. I am sorry for the baby. It sounds like the name of a bug.
I am thinking some of going to Brockton for the fair. But I haven't settled the question definitely yet.
I went to Athol to the fair. The first day. Prehaps [sic] you remember how it rained. I didn't care about going but Andrew was so disapointed [sic] that I put some old clothes on and went. We had a pretty good time after all.
Mrs. Miriam Seaver has been sent to the hospital by the town authorities. She had exzema [sic] and some other skin disease that was considered contagious. They found her living in an uncleanly condition, so deemed it best to send her away.
I am still gaining, and am planning to have the children come home sometime in October[.]
The fire-men are going to have a supper instead of the usual keg of beer, to celebrate there [sic] victory in Webster. They are going to invite their wives and families. It seems to me a much nicer way to do.
Mable sent me some very pretty post-cards while she was away. I thought it was very thoughtful of her.
I am glad you liked the children's pictures. We all like them very much. They look very natural, as they are not dressed up but have their every day clothes on.
It is time to get supper. So I will have to bring my letter to
yits close. How did you like the hot weather to teach in. Write soon and tell all the news. With love,
Edie.
