Dear Lucy,
I will write a few lines to you to let you know that I got home all right and that we are all jogging along in the same old way. That crowd of people that got on the car got off at the poor-farm - I think they went there to hold a service for the "inmates". There was plenty of room the rest of the way. I am afraid you will be discouraged to learn that I have not touched your waist this week. I can't see that I have done any thing but suppose I have a little - anyway I have felt pretty tired some nights.
Monday afternoon we looked through two of those trunks and picked out some things to send to Amoret - also some for the Walker girls. Tuesday I went to Gardner and actually, the car did not run off the track or get 'stuck', and I got there all right. After I got through at Dr. Jewett's I carried some things to Elsie Walker Rogers and made quite a call; then I went on to the bank, back down to West Gardner and did several errands. I foolishly missed my car and had to wait nearly an hour, and come home with Mary at 2-15, tired and hungry. After dinner we went through the other trunk which took us till suppertime.
Yesterday Mrs. Clark came - she missed her car and did not get here till 11-10, and had to go at 4-30, so to be sure not [to] miss her train - Carrie went down with her and while she was away I called on Miss Wilkinson - I found her gaining a little but not very fast. I told her you intended to call but could not make connections. Mary is having quite a time tonight. She got a postal from Roger asking her to be at the store about seven so he could talk with her - she went and waited till nearly 7-30 (kept the store open) then came home just a few minutes ago they sent for her and she has gone over to Mr. Johnson's house to hear what Roger has on his mind. She can't see through her geometry and does wish you was here to help her - and she is getting pretty nervous. Arthur Willoughby has another little daughter about a week old. His is that for hustling? How is school? And Mr. T_? Also Mr. W-? And how are you?
M- has just got back - Roger thought he would come way down here to go to the athletic ball at G- tomorrow night. Mary refused to go so I suppose he wont come down. He is a foolish boy to think to spend his time and money like that. I hope he will grow wiser as he grows older.
I must stop.
Much love.
Mama.
