A Letter Written on Aug 8, 1905

Aug. 8, 1905.

My dear Lucy -

I had such a nice letter from you quite awhile ago and I have not yet answered it. I have seen you since at Mountain Day celebration, but we did not have time for much of each other. I want to hear from you and know all that you are doing this summer and planning to do next year. I have been quietly keeping house for the best man in the world (in my opinion), and learning how to play "Bridge Whist." I haven't read much and have sewed some. I have been off on two picnic parties after blueberries and have put up eleven jars. I hope that they will be good. We have a "White City" at Lake Quinsigamond just out of Worcester which is probably like Coney Island. They have "Shoot the Chutes," the "Scenic Railway," "Ferris Wheel," and all such things. I have been down several times and had a fine time each time.

My mother lives near me during these summer months and it makes it very nice for me. I have been to church only three times, I believe, since I was married. I went once in New York besides. We have to drive two miles to church and it isn't always convenient. Church has closed until about the first of September. If you ever hear anything about any of the girls of 1905, please tell me. Now write me.

Yours lovingly,
Ruth E. Southwick.
