MassDear Lucy
We received the May-flowers all right - they were very nice and sweet we appreicated your kindness in sending them mother sends many thanks for them I intended to have written right after you were here but have deluged thought to write yesterday but going to church in the morning & S. School dinner to get and clear away went again at half past five so did not do anything else Mary has called on us she had a delightful time visiting you the distance to the station is the only obstacle at present perhaps what will fade away before she gets ready to teach I have lear[n]ed to make Taffy and am going to [be] making Sponge cake have some Potato flour for it have you ever used it - I have had a taste of the cake make from it it was real good I am housecleaning and getting ready for out of doors work my seeds on the piazza are beginning to come up. Mr. Hadley has moved he bought the Hunting place on the hill above Aunt Ada - We are to have five new houses built back of us shool [sic] street is to be extended far enough for it Towne & Whitney are having them built the lumber is being drawn so we feel sure of so much it will make quite a change here on the hill. Mrs. Wm Baker brought mother a very handsome bouquet of her pelargoniums they are very beautiful I have a few blossoms am afraid they will be gone before decoration hope not for these help so much in making up flower to look well -
I saw in the paper that you had been home and your friend came with you and the little girl Mary seemed to think she would enjoy having the girl and I know the small girl would have a good time and coming & going it must be pleasanter for you to have company - We are about as usual mother is glad to get out on the ground I think she has put in the ground some Radish seeds she is very fond of them and will have them all summer she plants about three times I hope we will have some cucumbers this we had very few last year our garden is all ready to plant when the man can do it so we will be in good time this season accept with love from us both and shall hope to hear from you soon -
