Office of
Superintendent of SchoolsNorth Dana, Mass., March 7, 1908.
My dear Miss Baker,-
The letter which I wrote you early in January I find was never sent but I hope you know me well enough to fully apprehend the meaning of such an incident. I think it is hardly necessary for me to add that it is without significance.
I am mailing you under separate cover a copy of the New Salem town report which may be of interest to you. You will observe that the faculty of the high school makes a good appearance on paper, and I assure you we are now getting on finely. Just look over the list of teachers and note the culture and breadth of scholarship shown in their preparation.
Now just a word in regard to your own plans. In your letter of December 10, which I believe is the last received, you said you would be unable to return to school this winter. It is now spring, or within two weeks of the opening of the spring term, and it seems quite necessary that the substitute should know at once what she must prepare for. I should like to tell her by Wednesday if it be convenient for you to write me at once.
Please do not think I am teasing for I expect you to follow the wise course and come or not as may seem best to you and your friends. As I said before we are indeed getting along finely and the present teachers will be pleased to carry on the work to the end of the year. But it will be my pleasure to conform to your wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Louis A. Pratt.
