South Hadley, Mass.,
Nov. 12, 1907.Dear Sister:-
I am awfully sorry that you didn't get my letter Sat. night. I don't know how it happened for I mailed it at the usual time but accidents will happen.
Nothing exciting seems to have taken place since Sunday. Yesterday A.M. Auntie sat in the laundry and watched me wash. She took a lot of little things to Hartford with her so I didn't have much to do. Then we looked over some things and did some odd jobs. After French I went to the hotel to dinner. Ahem! Then we came back to my room and stayed until time for me to go to Gym. We are learning a little dance there part of which is just like the May pole dance so it comes easy to me. After Botany Auntie & I went to walk but as we didn't have our rubbers on we couldn't go off of the concrete walks so we didn't get very far though I walked fifty minutes. Last night I studied when I wasn't asleep. I curled up once and went sound asleep. This A.M. when I came up from Mrs. Teale's I thought I had plenty of time but when I got in sight of the clock it was almost half past & you know the doors for breakfast close at half past. I had my arms full but I raced a good share of the way down
thereto Walder. When I arrived there I found the breakfast bell hadn't rung The clock had stopped & I didn't know it so I got my race all for nothing but I didn't lose my breakfast.Miss Evans told us to-day that if we had two or more misspelled words on a theme that the theme would be rejected. Woe! And it wouldn't take many rejected themes to send one to a tutor. I think that is a little harsh treatment. I got my outline of Macaulay back & found written on it "Good but work for clear-cut, precise statements". That is better than being asked to rewrite it.
After Botany I went down to the greenhouses with Irene Brown to see the crysanthemums [sic] and why under the sun I didn't take Auntie down there is more than I know. I never saw such lovely things in all my life. They were of all colors and all sizes. I had never been inside the greenhouse before. Isn't it great in there where the palms and ferns are? It was almost dark when we were there & we could almost imagine we were in Florida.
To-night is the first night for a week that all that sit at Miss Smith's table were
tablethere Margaret Everts has been away for a week and last night when she was back Elizabeth Lindsay had her mother here so I went to another table. We drew lots for places and wonders of wonders! I got the same one. I don't object very much. Katherine & I remain the same as before and Alice moves the other side of me so Miss Smith still has her Freshmanbesidenear her. Four besides Miss Smith & Margaret don't move at all.Perhaps you would be interested to know that Mr. Kinney has a little son which arrived to-day I think so there is a new one to tend green house.
To-morrow P.M. the Seniors give some sort of a show in the Gym. all kinds of entertainment - side shows, vaudville [sic], band concert, delicacies to tempt the most bird like appetite - popcorn, peanuts, dogs, cold-ice-cream, moxie. - "Cave of the Winds", ["]Crystal Maze," "Bump the Bumps." Admission 10 cents. Children under five (feet) 8¢. I couldn't begin to name all of the attractions. The Social Club have a big thing to-night but as I don't belong I can have a long quiet evening to study.
I had a nice long letter from Aunt Mattie to-day. She sent me a real pretty postal of East Templeton square. She said that Cousin Fidelia was coming over to call on me & have me come over to Amherst & stay over Sunday some time. The faculty reception comes to-morrow night. If it were only the Faculty dinner which isn't going to take place!
With love to you all,
Molly.
