A Letter Written on Jan 15, 1908

North New Salem Mass.
Jan. 15, 1908.

Dear Miss Baker:-

I received your letter a long while ago but have neglected answering it until now.

I have been about sick the last few days with a grippe cold, which as you doubtless know is not very pleasant[.]

Aren't we having a curious winter?

I haven't had but one sleigh ride yet this winter.

There seems to be quite a good deal of sickness around.

I am at home just at present.

I had a chance to work in the telephone office at Orange but I would have had to give a months time and board up there, so I thought I wouldn't go as it would cost quite a lot and I wouldn't get very large pay after I had learned.

I hear from Mildred and Mary once in a while and I had letters from Ella and Mamie last week. I haven't been up on the hill since last September but from what I hear I should think they had quite a nice school up there this year.

I do housework, play on the organ and read.

I also have crocheted some lately.

It had seemed quite a while since I had heard any thing about you, so was very glad to hear from you.

I hope you are in better health than you have been.

Ella and Mary both seem to be doing finely as, "schoolmarms".

Ella says she has nine scholars.

Mary says she had seventeen now and nineteen the beginning of the year.

Well I must close now and with love, hoping you will write soon,

From Iona.
