Hardwick, Mass.
Mar. 19, '08.Dear Miss Baker;
Your card rec'd today. You must think me sadly deficient in etiquette but really I have been waiting to know when mamma intended to come home as of course I could not leave home until she came.
I expect her tonight on the stage but she may not come until tomorrow[.] Now I think I can come to you about next Wed or Thurs. if you care
dto have me or could wait until the following week.You spoke of going to Hartford, and please do not alter any plans on my account.
I hope you understand my situation I could not have come before and yet all the week until Wed. night I thought perhaps mamma would be home any day. I know she will be here at least by tomorrow (Fri.) for she thinks I have to go back to New Salem to begin school next Mon. Mr. Pratt has sent me notice that I am to have two weeks' more vacation but mamma doesn't know of it.
Therefore I am at your service any time next week or week after with the exception of next week Sat. and Sun. I expect "company" then so would rather be at home.
If you have planned your Hartford trip at this time, don't let me interfeer [sic] with your plans my dear.
I have a great deal to tell you, and I want to see you very much indeed.
Now you will do just as you think best about my coming; don't disappoint yourself about Hartford, and I shall not mind if you write me that you had rather I would defer my visit.
Hoping this will find you all well and happy, I am,
Your sincere friend
Olive B. [Bliss]P.S. over.
Mamma has come tonight so I can come as I said if you wish me to.
Sincerely - O.B.
