My dear Emma & Lucy:

I cant possibly write two letters, so you will have to read this together. Was very glad I took the first car yesterday morning for "Willie" took it when we got up to the corner, and we had quite a chat I very foolishly told him Emma that you were with us. He said he was going to fix that hole back of the house one of these days. Think I shall drop him a card and tell him not to go down this week. I arrived at Springfield about 10:20 and took a train for Holyoke at 10:30 - where I arrived about 10:45 and a black cloud arrived at the same time. About two minutes after I went into the station the wind blew and it poured. At eleven I asked the ticket agent when the cars left for S. H- He said they are just leaving City Hall now and I should have plenty time to get to them. I asked him if there was any place to stand to keep out of the rain while I waited. He said there was a drug store, and that he had an umbrella and was going right down there and I could go with him. Of course I went. It didnt rain much them. (He didn't ask me to take anything) I got to South Hadley about 11:30 and found Mary in her room but she had to go in about ten minutes (English I think) She let me fix the collar to her silk waist and put a pillow in the cover while she was gone. She got back about 12:10. The next two hours we spent in trying on dresses - eating lunch &c.

Margaret came in for a few minutes and M had to finish her Latin. She can wear her yellow dress all right, a little snug. Her green was quite comfortable after I set the hooks over on the girdle. Pink one is pretty tight but by morning button on neck binding so it wouldn't choke her to death she will be all right. Silk jumper all right except belt. Set one hooks [sic] on that, so think she can wear it. You see I was quite busy while I was there. She had to go at two oclock so I went out with her and took the car for South Hadley. I changed at City Hall, (had to wait ten minutes) and took the car for Springfield. I sat on the left hand side of the car so to see if I could see Elisha's house I saw a house that I thought was his and was looking and both eyes and when we got a little bit past the house saw Elisha come out of the hen house. Don't think he saw me. I had a good mind to get off and make a call, but thought there was so little time and we had just had another shower, and the wind was blowing, so gave it up. I left Springfield at 4:05 instead of 5:20. Got to Hartford about five but didnt dare come out here so I had told L I would get to the station about six. About 5:30 she walked in ; so we got home in good season. The wind blew all the afternoon and night and has all day to day. It's five oclock now and I really believe it isn't so bad I was just awful tired last night - but the wind blew so and things rattled so I didnt sleep very well. We didn't go to church today - expected Fred L out but he has not come yet. It's real cold. Hope you are keeping warm - Emma build a fire in my room and keep it.

How is Uncle. If he isn't feeling better let me know. Look out for that little mess of pie meat in the pantry. Lucy put those books and check in the tin trunk with my things. Hope I didnt wear you both all out getting me ready.

Love to you all.
