Feb. 17, 1904.My dear Lucy
Yours received it has been so cold here that you can hardly write or do anything comfortably It seems tonight as if it might be a little milder in the morning I suppose your mother has written you all about Aunt Augusta - she surprised us by taking dinner with us one day last week she told us about your going to Springfield & Amherst it was to[o] bad you will have to try again when the weather is warmer and you can wait any where you like - I have been but very little this winter have been down to the P.O. a few time[s] do not care to forget where it is and have to inquire in such a place as this I feel anxious to know how the town goes on the license question for we do not want a wholesale trade here nor a saloon either the time will soon be here - I think it very nice you could have two such pleasant evenings I think I would have enjoyed talk and also the music but not the music as you do because my ear in that line I feel is defective you know your aunts are apt to get the tune wrong and not know it but you always know when you went wrong -
I have got to make me a new shirt waist and two print dresses mean to begin tomorrow my washing is in the tub the wind has blown so hard I suppose you have got yours all done and out of the way Cora Wheeler has a little d[a]ughter and I mean to go up and see it soon as I can - Have you seen any bead bells among the young ladies - small girl beyond us fractured the bone in leg above the ankle I have been in to see her several times she thought it pretty hard to lie on her back all the time she is getting along finely Grandma has been quite comfortable not having a hard cold this winter so far we have not had as much snow as we sometimes have the boys have made the marks here three times and that is unsual [sic] today the team went through and ploughed out the road for the first time this season the side-walk has been kept fine Mr. Webb knows how to do it nice - accept with love from us both and write when you can we are always glad to hear from you -
Yours sincerely
Aunt Mattie
