A Letter Written on Nov 12, 1905

Mount Holyoke College
South Hadley, Mass.

Nov. 12, 1905.

My dear Lucy:-

Founders Day has come and gone. I looked for some of the 1905 girls but didn't see any of them. Suppose they were all busy teaching. Lucy Jennings was here Sunday. It was not very pleasant Wed. so the procession formed in Mary Lyon. Pres. Hyde of Bowdoin gave the address, "The Worth of the Womanly Ideal." After the exercises, the procession reformed and passed to the Library, where the Dedication Exercises took place. Miss Woolley gave a short historical sketch paying tribute to the work of Miss Nutting and Miss Blakely, Dr. Judson Smith offered the dedicatory prayer, and all joined in singing the Doxology. In the evening, Prof. Hammond's Organ Recital took place. He was assisted by Miss Holmes, Miss Dickinson, and Hazel Huntley. One of the selections was "Ave Maria" with Piano, Organ, Violin, and Voice. Hazel and Miss Dickinson gave a duet which was encored and then both sang separately.

Tuesday evening we went over to Easthampton to a chicken pie supper at the Methodist Church. Miss Morse's brother in law is Pastor there. He and his wife were over here a while ago and invited the table. Miss Morse was chaperone. We left here at five and returned at ten. After the supper, we went over to the parsonage and played games.

Next Tuesday afternoon I am invited to the Safford at Home given by the faculty.

Wednesday afternoon is the Senior Vaudeville Show, which is to be better than the County Fair, one Senior said. That night Miss Woolley gives her Dinner to the Faculty. We haven't decided yet about what we shall do. I imagine the Vaudeville will interfere a great deal.

How is Mary this year? I forgot to ask you when you were at College. They

Mr. Jordan died very suddenly two weeks ago tonight. He had been having difficulty with breathing for a few days and was obliged to sleep in his chair. Mrs. Jordan is to live at her daughter's, Mrs. Putnam's in Waltham. The house is to be rented, but my folks think no one will go in there this winter. It will seem strange to me at Christmas not to go in and see Mrs. Jordan. We shall miss them very much.

Your Thanksgiving vacation will begin very soon, if you have the entire week. I expect to spend mine in writing my class letter. Did you receive the postal? They sent mine home.

We decided to dress up Halloween, after all, as the other tables were going to. We represented Mother Goose characters. Miss Morse was the old lady that lived in a shoe. Simple Simon, Cinderella, Little Boy Blue and others were represented. I was the "lady with rings on her fingers and bells on her toes." The other tables represented Gypsies, Witches, Mother Goose characters, A Bridal Party, Zu Zu's, Colonial Dames, and Pumpkins. Our spread consisted of salad and pop-corn.

Harriett has commenced to take her meals at the different halls. She is in Mead now. If you had made your visit a week later, you would have had ample opportunity to see her.

I have the blank for registration with the Appointment Committee, but haven't filled it out yet.

Please write soon and tell me about your school.

With love,
Addie Fitch. Box 375.
