[Some paragraph marks added for ease of reading.]South Hadley, Mass.,
Dec. 1, 1907.Dear Sister:-
I fear you won't get much of a letter for this is the only sheet of this kind of paper that I can find. Horrible dictu? Edith Knowlton is going over to Brigham to room with Elizabeth Sheffield so both are happy. Edith invited me down into her room to sleep Friday night as her roommate was sleeping with another girl whose room mate hadn't come back. Olive came in & slept with Margaret & I went down with Edith.
Then Margaret had a telegram saying that one of her friends was coming to spend Sunday with her so I slept with Edith last night & expect to to-night. We didn't have our spread last night but when we found that Margaret's friend was coming decided to have it to-night instead of going down to supper. We are going to have cocoa & tea, crackers with jelly on them, olives, cake, candy, nuts, dates etc. I think that we shall have enough. I am going down into Jennie's room to sleep to-night as Dorothy is going down into her own room.
I have been making calls all the afternoon & most people have been away. Ruth McGregor was away and the pencil on the door was broken so I couldn't even leave my name. I called on Mabel Allen. (She is Miss Hutchins niece.) She was up at the L.A.H. fair this summer. Wasn't that strange? Then I went to call on Helen Nutter but she had an "Engaged" sign out. Then I called on Ruth Johnson & had a pleasant time: I tried to call on Irene Brown but she was away and after I got home she called on me.
Yesterday I didn't do any thing wildly exciting I got through all my lessons without knowing much of anything. Margaret's friend came at four o'clock & we talked and then they went off and I took my bath. I was seized with a desire to go to Class Prayer Meeting so I went with Bordine. There were very few there but it was a nice meeting.
Today Mr. Nichols preached in the chapel. Most of the girls like him very much but someway I didn't take to him. I forgot to say that I have asked Marion to go to the reception & she has accepted. Edith told me of another girl who was going to ask her so I got frightened & asked her in a hurry. Marion squeezed my hand when I met her down stairs Fri. night and I went up to her room & she was just lovely. Christine's sister Peggy has been here to-day & they have gone up to Vermont to-gether to-day. Peggy looked awful nice. Miss Smith didn't come back until last night so we have had things at the table all our own way.
Marion Ober, a Senior, calmly sat in Botany & heard Miss Kennedy ask several times if everyone had registrared [sic]& never thought of such a thing. She hadn't left college during vacation. Some of the girls were thinking that she ought not to get a condition for conditions were not given for absent mindedness. I think it is a shame if she does get one - the last half of her Senior year.
I went for a short walk between church & dinner & the girls I was with nearly froze but I was as warm as toast in my red coat. The girls like my suit very much. I just tore a beautiful three cornered place in my blue skirt on the handles of my "chiff." Isn't that interesting? I shall have to mend it now. I wish there was some way of turning things around so there could be a little more space.
This is positively the worst letter I ever wrote home but there is nothing to write. I will endeavor to do better next time. How is Uncle? I suppose Dorothy is going to school this week. It was great getting that letter from Auntie Sat. night.
With love to you all,
From Molly.
