A Letter Written on Jul 12, 1906

Milford, N.H.,
July 12, 1906.

My dear Lucy:-

Your kind invitation has been received and it is needless to say that we shall be delighted to accept it. If nothing happens, we shall come week after next. I'll let you know later what day you may expect us.

Next Monday evening we are going to a surprise party, given in honor of Uncle John and Aunt Phebe. It will be their fifteenth wedding anniversary. The party will be held at the Batchelder farm in Lyndeboro, where Aunt Phebe's mother lives.

I do not know yet where I shall be next year, but hope to hear soon from school officials, to whom I have been writing.

1906 had lovely weather for their Commencement exercises, with the exception of Sunday and Monday. I reached their Monday noon and returned Thursday. Lottie wasn't there then, but a number of 1905 girls were present. Among them were Polly Wentworth, Alice Tappen, Helen Bullard, Ethel Trask, and others, who came over from Easthampton. Wednesday evening we 1905 girls took our lunches up on Prospect, Mrs. Morrill was there and treated us at Glesmann's afterwards. Emma Grimes takes Grace Hamilton's place next year and Florence Foss, Hilma Cook's. The other girls who were at College this year are going to return.

I saw in the paper accounts of the deaths of Judson Smith and Miss Woolley's father. Mr. Woolley came to College last month but was taken ill there. Mr. Smith was unable to be present. Both sent messages of regret which were mentioned by Miss Woolley at the exercises. There were a number of gifts for the Student Alumnae Building.

Louise and Lorenia were there one day. I didn't see them. I heard Lorenia had applied for the South Hadley Falls High School. Cara Dillingham is going to teach French in the Petersham High School, I believe.

A few days after I returned home, my cousins from Vermont came for a week's visit. They were on their wedding tour. We hadn't seen the bridegroom since he was a little boy, so he was almost a stranger as well as the bride.

There was an account of the exercises at the Gardner High School in the Boston Paper. There were pictures of Mary and the others who had prominent parts. Our exercises were held in the evening this year, as they had no large reception.

We had a quiet Fourth this year. There was a shower after dinner. In the evening we went down to the Park to see the fireworks and dancing.

We send our love. It seems a long time since I saw you last.

With love,
Addie B. Fitch.
