A Letter Written on Sep 26, 1907

New Salem Mass,
Sept 26, 1907.

Dear Miss Baker:-

I have been intending to write to you ever since school closed but haven't seemed to have time to write to any body, looking at your letter tonight I see it is a month ago you wrote and it seems only a few days ago.

Well we began school with a couple of green hands that didn't seem to understand their buisness [sic] as well as they ought to. The man Mr. Hon, Sq. Betts (I forgot what his name was) I like very much but the woman (old) looks as tho she was fresh out of a normal school, (just hatched). Her name is Miss Jarushi Dunnum (I don't know how to spell her name nor what her first name is) but she will dun um if they don't have their lessons.

The school committee have given up music and drawing and have taken up sewing and are going to have cooking and some other things as soon as possible. (I mended my shirt today) Miss Ruth Ballard is the third teacher and has some of the classes Monday's, Wen. and Fridays.

I take English, Algebra, and Bookkeeping, and am going to take advanced Phisics [sic] later.

The focks [sic] are all well as usual, how are you?

I went to Worcestor [sic] and Providence and stayed about a week and that is all the visiting I have done this summer.

I put the papers in the top draw as you said.

Are you coming back Thanksgiving, I heard so, and hope so, so we can get rid of this crank.

I must close as it is getting along into the night.

Sincerely your friend
Charlie.
