Prescott Mass
July 25, 1907Dear Friend Miss Baker:-
I will try to write you just a few lines.
I am sorry I did not take time to write to you long ago but I have been very busy all the time.
I came home here to Prescott about the last of May and I found my mother in quite poor health.
She had the doctor and was not able to do much of any thing.
I have had full charge of the work & care of the children[.] One of my sisters was away and the first thing we
kewknew she was sick with the measles. So as my mother was then feeling a little better she went down to see her as none of the rest of us had ever had the measles. The trip made her worse she came home almost blind. She doctored again and got so she could see again and last Sunday she had a shock which was on the entire left side of her and right side of face. She knows what is said to her but she talks like one of these jew peddlers and when her mind get [sic] on one thing it runs on that for quite a while[.]
We have to some of us stay with her all the time night and day.
She has not yet gained use of her arm or leg.
She does not seem juite [sic] so uneasy to day as she has been.
Doctor comes every day.
How is every one up your way? Thanks for the postal I was glad to get just a line from you.
I don't make any plans ahead so I don't know where I shall be or what I'll be doing by next fall. Its nice wether [sic] were having isn't it.
Are you going to teach in New Salem next year?
I hope you will have a nice vacation.
I don't think of much more news to write for now so I will close.
Hoping to hear from you again soon
Good bye for this time
From your Friend
