A Letter Written on Sep 30, 1906

[A few paragraph marks were added for ease of reading]

Templeton, Mass.
Sept. 30, 1906.

Dear Sister:-.

I was going to write a lot of letters this P.M. but it is seven o'clock now and this is the first one I have started and there is an open book (very interesting) beside me so you see you[r] chances are small. Cousin Lizzie, Auntie & I have been up to the cemetery and walked home. There was a most glorious sunset as probably you saw. Bessie was up at the railroad crossing ready to take the car so I saw her for half a second. Cousin Lizzie, Auntie & I went over to the other church to-day & then I went over to the Ladies' Library. Mrs. Maynard (O dear, troubles have begun. Lucius came down and staid an hour. But Mama & Auntie & Cousin Lizzie stayed with me all the time so he had no show) to resume. Mrs. M. said I was just a trifle late. Cousin Bessie & Cousin Lizzie were worrying about us for fear we were sick. Cousin Lizzie M. didn't get here until Sat. A.M. She went out to Cousin 'Lisha's & the electrics were delayed so she missed the train. She expects that Cousin Fred will come next Sun. O joy! Sat. Cousin L. and I went down to Cousin Minnie's. Gladys is just the sweetest little girl that ever lived. She is just as good as she can be and grows cuter every day. Mrs. Carpenter and Ruth & Walter came in while we were there. Walter is a dear little fellow. I hate awfully to have them go to Gardner. Mrs. C. doesn't want to go at all.

There is a story which I have been trying to tell you for the last two or three weeks. Ruth said that they didn't like Miss Burnap very well and one day they all declared that they wouldn't study their lessons. But one of them wanted to know what they were going to do if Miss B- wanted to know how long they spent on the lesson. Ruth said that she was going to sit on her book so they all decided to & when Miss B. wondered why they hadn't their lesson & wanted to know how long they spent on it they all said they spent an hour on it. The teacher couldn't say anything of course so she explained it all out & they learned it in class. Do your pupils do thusly? I thought it was a very cute idea.

Well, I lived through my music lesson but whether I shall get through another remains to be seen Miss Blodgett told me to come at 5:15 so I was there at that fateful hour but she wasn't. I rung the bell till I was tired and finally someone told me that she was over at the Inn so over I went. Some guests had just arrived and as there is only one bell-boy on duty at once now for Mason and Frank have gone, Miss Blodgett was helping so I waited until quarter of six before she was ready for me & then she only gave me half an hour. She gave me an awful hard March for one thing & I thought I never should be able to play it but I can now after a fashion.

Tuesday I went up to Grandma's. She is about as usual I think. She and I were only alone part of the time & she seemed more talkative as than usual. Aunt Mattie & I discussed our various & sundry plants. She said that she would make me two sofa pillows I expect they will be a yellow one and a green one. When I got home I found that Linnie had been for me twice to go down to the saw mill. I went down to her house the next night but she wasn't there so I went started down Thurs. night. I met Linnie & Guy on the common. Linnie was going down to Mrs. Tufts' to try on her clothes so she took me along. Mrs. Tufts' has made or is making her two ginghams dresses (a blue and a gray but of course the gray is her favorite) a white dotted muslin dress waist, a green skirt and a white suit made out of some sailors' cloth that Viny sent her. (Viny hasn't gone yet. He is having a terrible time getting his papers.) Mrs. Struthers is making Linnie a white voil [sic] dress, a dotted muslin dress and a fancy waist so I guess Linnie won't lack clothes this year.

I don't know as I can write any more for I have done any no studying to speak of (its [sic] Monday morning now) & I ought to practrice [sic] two hours and a half and it is 7:30 now & I haven't had my breakfast. Did you have a good time at Amherst? I made a potato salad Sat. & it was fine. My chocolate jelly did not suit my fancy.

With love,
Molly
