A Letter Written on Jan 11, 1903

My dear Lucy:-

I was more sorry than I can tell you not to come down Tuesday evening but it was impossible. I was very much disappointed for I was very sure I could come and it would be so good to have a nice "old fashioned" chat.

What can't be cured must be endured so don't feel that I didn't wan't [sic] to come.

Tomorrow morning Florence French goes to the hospital for her operation. I am afraid she won't come out well but all we can do is to hope for the best.

James Hawks came up tonight to see Stuart. He looks much better than when I saw him last. As for news I'm afraid I can not give you any so will stop for tonight.

Write at your earliest opportunity. And believe me, I was exceedingly sorry not to come down Tuesday.

Lovingly,
Annie B. S- [Scollay]
