A Letter Written around Dec 17, 1902

Private.

Dear Lucy:-

I will write a little more now I have received your letter. Can you think of anything to give Auntie? I suggested a calendar but Mama says that we could get a book as cheap as a calendar and she will be likely to have calendars. I shall have to leave it with you. Down a[t] Swallow's you can get fairly good books for $.25. Mama has just said she would like a couple iron spoons to cook with. I haven't the faintest idea what to get [her]. Among other things a white fascinator, a million dollars, a fur boa to match her muff and a carpet-sweeper. You give her the million dollars and I will get the fascinator and boa. Mama says she would like the world with a barbed wire fence around it. It is quarter past eight[.]

With love,
Mary.
