A Letter Written on Mar 22, 1903

Gardner, Mass.

March 22, 1903.

Dear Lucy,-

You see I am still at home. I could not go and study. As a contrast I am in a dressmaker's room learning the correct method of sewing up seams. I enjoy it very much.

I am glad that Burton K. has succeeded so well. But do you know I haven't heard of the honor my cousin has won as I suppose she is trying to do so. How do you like astronomy?

I heard that Burton K has been home with the grippe but that he has returned now. The '03 Chronicle said Chessie has left school. The '03 rings have come and I was told that they were very pretty.

I think you and the Amherst gentlemen must be sensible children.

I was visiting in Worcester when your letter came so that I was able to make a call on the Normal School. Most of my classmates had passed into the third class and seemed to be enjoying it very much.

Just at present and I am learning a little piece for Easter. A sacred cantata is to be given in which the three chief characters are Joy, Grief and Hope. I am supposed to represent Hope. It will be very pretty if it is successfully given.

Ruth Gregory was making inquiries about you. She wanted to know how you were enjoying college life and what studies you were taking up.

Well, good luck and happiness to you

From your cousin
