[Some paragraph marks added for ease of reading]Templeton, Mass.,
Dec. 6, 1903.Dear Lucy:-
What do you think of the weather? Is it snowy at South Hadley? We were all late to school
Wed.Thurs. The six o'clock car went up all right and then there was not another car until half past eight. We got up to school about nine. We went into the office to get an excuse. but Mr. Osbourne had a recitation so we went to our room and told Miss Allen. Linnie and Arthur had rhetoricals that period and didn't get there in time to say their pieces so they said them the sixth period down in the senior room. The rest of us had a study period the first period.I have had my seat changed. The 2nd period Fri. Miss Allen said, "Cowee, I think I shall have to change your seat," and, looking around, "I think Miss Baker would like to change with you." At recess time she put me in his seat, Bessie beside me, Cowee in Bessie's seat, and Beulah in mine. Fri. Mr. Osbourne put me in charge for a week of one of those little stalls where we eat our lunches in the basement. The 6th period Hazel Merrill, Carrie Wright and I were up in the drawing room, talking of course, and we heard some one unlock the door & in walked Mr. Osbourne. I suppose he heard us talking & thought that he would see what we were up to. He was real nice and asked us all about our drawing. I had an exam. in Greek Thurs., one in Latin & one in Geom. Fri. so you see we are getting lots of them.
L.A.H was yesterday. I don't think that I can get the handkerchief done anyway so I will have to wait and give it to her [for] her birthday and you and I go in to-gether Xmas. At the meeting we decided to send fruit now to Mrs. Tompkins & Mr. Douglass who has been very sick, and for Xmas send to Mrs. Harrison in Brooksvillage a pair of shoes; to Mrs. Chadwick (Flossy thinks that she has a walking skirt that she can have); Mrs. Hiram Seaver if she needs anything; the Grimes in Partridgeville (We had a letter from Mrs. Grimes, thanking us for sending things to her. Mrs. P-- sent her a Thanksgiving dinner which got there on Fri. and asked her if the children had caps and mittens. She wrote back that they had no caps. so if we send them anything it will be caps.[)] Mrs. P said that she wanted to find out a little more about them; Alice Culling is to have a backet [sic] of fruit; and games are to go to the State children
andat Mrs. Bryant's and Mrs. Walker's.I think that Elmer has been sick. He was not on the car for two days. I went to the dentists Thurs. and had a lot more gold put in one of my front teeth. Isn't that mean? I went up to Aunt Ada's Fri. night for half an hour. She said that Grandma was about the same as usual She thought that she seemed more like herself Thanksgiving time. I went skating on Burn's Pond, just think Burn's Pond!!! Monday and had an elegant time. I improved in skating lots in just that afternoon. Mama is making me that blue and brown checked waist that she got for you. It opens on the side and [I] want some little brass buttons on it. Don't you think that it would be pretty. Kit is pretty well. He sleeps all the time, only waking up long enough to get something to eat. I didn't intend to write as much as this when set out but I had so much to tell that I had to. X X X
