Thank you ever and ever so much for the beautiful little book which you sent me. I think it as just as lovely as it can be. The illustrations are such beauties, that nothing could have pleased me better. It was dear of you to send it.
I spent ten days at home and enjoyed them very much. It was quiet but so nice. I hate to be away from home worse than when I was in college.
I went to some very nice entertainments while there; an oratorio, two Xmas S.S. exercises, and an organ recital. I also attended a reception given by the College Women's Club. About forty were present, representing a large number of colleges. Holyoke had six representatives. It was very in formal [sic], the only entertainment being piano selections by Ethel Carpenter, Clara's sister. I enjoy these gatherings very much.
Xmas morning I attended the beautiful communion service of the church, and heard Xmas music and sermon. I do love those services.
Santa Claus was very good and brought me nearly everything I asked for. I got a blue and green plaid wool wast, a belt, tie, picture framed, cup and saucer, two handkerchiefs, four calandars [sic], photo of Frances Nixon, perfumery, candy, two cute aprons, and several other things. I embroidered linen waists for both mamma & auntie, as their Xmas gifts.
I enjoy the school still. The work is not at all bad though I have a good deal of policeman duty. That is not exactly pleasant, but is improving. It will soon be Regents, and I will be glad when my first experience with those is over. One will have to be so careful in marking the papers that go to Albany.
We have had just beautiful weather today. The sky has been as blue and it has seemed just like a spring day. It has rained and been so slippery for the last month that it is a welcome change. I took quite a walk this afternoon.
The third grade teacher in the next room seems to have gone daft over the cat. She is making a great fuss over it. It is a cute cat, just as black as coal and very fluffy.
Thanking you again for the book I am yours with much love,
Mary.
