[The two postmarks on this envelope are Jan 3, 1910 and Jan 31, 1910. This letter appears to be written on Jan 2. The letter was written on "Sunday evening" and Jan 3 was a Monday. But the second letter is dated Jan 28, 1910. And yet Aunt Carrie has it on Jan 2, to enclose it with hers in the same envelope? Go figure!]Six oclock Sunday Eveg -
Dear Lucy
Your cousin Lizzie wonders what I can have to write you when you only went away yesterday afternoon. Not much, but enough so you will know we are all well.
After you went I finished doing up the rusk [?] It was so late decided not to make a cake[.] About five oclock Carl came up with some butter milk. After supper I went up to get the mail Mary's letter was directed to you, but after going up in such weather and such walking, decided I was entitled to read it, so I did. Will enclose it. Also got you a postal from Mabel and one for myself from Bessie. She is at Long Beach, Cal now. This morning I decided I would make a buttermilk cake, which I did and it looks all right[.] That is all I have done except the regular work. Mrs Tufts went to church and brought us two books[.] One was the Post.Girl and she has taken it home to read. Must stop and write Mary a line. Lizzie had a postal from Emma. She said the Dr thought her side was a little better. Wrote that she expected Mary over next Friday, so I guess you will have to go to the hospital to see her. Possibly she will get to Elisha's so you can go again and see her there. How did you get out to Mabel's? Emma Spear called this afternoon. Thought we must be sick as there was no one at church. Love to Mabel and a lot to yourself
