Dear Lucy

I received your your [sic] letter and thought I will be prompt this time but so many things I attended Mr. Lane's funeral and just before that we had a nice time when we held a reception and invited the Woman's Club from Athol also Baldwinville we had a good number and they seemed to have such a nice time - since that we have had the accident here that caused the death of Ellsworth Hale it seems very sad for her just moved here should think she would wish she was back in her home up town - Cousin Mary Marean is visiting me now has been here most two weeks goes away tomorrow if pleasant - we have had a hard storm but the rain will do a lot of good it was so dry awhile I shall not have as many flowers as I do sometimes I am glad you are going to have a room by yourself think you will enjoy it better I think your schedule for lessons quite nice I think you will enjoy it am glad you are going to take music lessons be sure not work to[o] hard I want you to go through all right. Mother is improving slowly is not as strong as before she was sick. I am glad you have been to Amherst It will be a change for you to go occasionally and they will be real glad to see you as often as you can go - We are looking forward to the time when you will be home again and we can see you once more - I must close as other duties call accept with love from us both -
