I would write Mr. Miles something like this - (Better say that you were away from home so there was delay about your getting the letter, for with my company I forgot to send it for a day or two). That as yet you have received no money for the estate, but there is some due about the first of June which you expect to receive very soon, and that you will pay him just as soon as possible.
I don't see as there is any other way to do. I don't know as you have any right to pay out any money till after the appraisal, and there certainly is none now that you can get hold of unless you borrow and I should not want to do that. Of course you will write it your own way but that is the sentiment for you to convey, I think. Very likely he does not need it so much but is a little anxious it has been so long.
