Dear Lucy

I am writing a little this evening and will pen a few lines for your perusal -

We are having delightful weather mostly a few cold windy days some clouds but taken as a whole we call it nice I have got the work outside about done Wallace is coming to get the leaves then we shall feel as if we had cleaned up have taken up one carpet trimmed out the holes and have it ready to put down again think that will do for this time have some house-cleaning to do then it will be near to Thanksgiving we shall hope to see you then -

While I am busy here you are more than busy in your place daily hope you are enjoying the school as well as last year the Autumn leaves have been very handsome this year and we can see a good many from here the new houses did not hide all of them - Mother is about as usual but we do like warm weather the best do you have any apples where you are we had a barrel in all some of them were not very good -

I have learned to do Shadow Embridery [sic] I think it is pretty and so much less work than the real article have you done any I saw some of Mary's her Chemisette I think it looks so pretty for the work there is in it[.] One cold morning we could see snow on Monadnock saw in the pape[r] that Boston had had a snow flurry so I suppose some of it dodged on the mountain -

Water is what is wanted here just now the new houses back of us have not got any yet they are making a second well the last I heard they were down 60 ft and not any water scarcely the last one they are driving one family has moved in and moved out gone to Gardner the man had work here now he has a job in Gardner one house is occupied & one the family have moved their goods and are waiting for water[.]

accept with love from us both
Your Aunt Mattie.
