A Letter Written on Feb 23, 1907

Templeton, Mass.
Feb. 23, 1907.

Dear Lucy:-

I believe you owe me a letter unless you call the dainty little valentine I received an answer to my last. I was very much pleased with it. as it came as a total surprise.

I have been haveing [sic] a touch of the grip. and have felt rather disgusted with myself in general.

Clara Aiken was very low this morning in fact she was not expected to live through the day. It seems very sad.

I presume you know that Martha's little girl is dead. She died Thursday morning. and I heard that Mr. Noyes and his sister have diptheria. I do not know the truthfulness of that last statement. But if it is So it certainly must be dreadful.

I went to the maskquerade [sic] Tuesday night. although neither of us masked. The ladies had quite a number of pretty costumes but I think the men could have been improved on. There was a night & morning, Bertie Cobleigh and Clara Bourn, had white dresses trimmed with hearts, Dora Bourn, a dress constructed of newspapers, Lena Farrington a very pretty pink costume trimmed with silver used on X-mas trees and made in a military way. Mrs. Tufts had a pale blue dress with long flowing sleeves, and there were quite a number other pretty ones Mrs. Minnie Seaver. and Florence Taylor were the best disguised The former as an old lady and the latter as a ghost.

The men mostly represented tramps. There were two clowns & Herbert Hunting had a pretty sailor suit. There were quite a number present who prehaps [sic] had better stayed at home as far as going to the Union was concerned. Pineapple and chocolate ice-cream was served at intermission.

I believe Mr. Maynard told mama that they took in nine dollars.

Herbert White has been haveing [sic] a dreadful time with thyphoid [sic] and is in the hospital at Southhampton. [sic] We were all very much worried, but he is slightly better now. Grandpa and May have behaved. shamefully. I will explain at greater length when I see you.

I saw by the paper that you came home over Friday. a while ago. Are you going to have a vacation soon. Write when you can find time.

With love,
Edie
