A Letter written on Dec 12, 1918

Home - Thursday morning

Dear Margaret -

Dismal weather isint [sic] it! And yesterday was much colder than the mercury said - in the house. Fires seemed to make little impression, though they burned well. Father walked down tow. I found it rather hard.

Auntie went to Springfield Tues. P.M. & we suppose to Hartford Wed morning. They were to be entertained by Aunties friend Mattie Hopkins. And she hoped to call on the Thompsons, & to see Felix. & will probably stay there till Friday & come home from Springfield Saturday. I do hope she will have a nice time. - shall hope to hear from her to-day. We did not have the P.J. [Pittsfield Journal, the local newspaper] at all last week, but on Tuesday, just as Auntie was leaving, that came with the peace [?] story. & this weeks paper also. & yesterday there were two letters from Walter. & a package of cards for Christmas which I will keep till I know if Allan & Virgie will come home.

I am sending the letter to them this morning. I think they are feeling a little doubtful about coming. & the Allens seem to be too. It will be such a change for Ruth & the Influenza is still abroad.

And Allan has the Archaeological & Philological meetings Dec 26-28 with vacation Dec 25 - Jan 1[.] Too bad isint [sic] it! And we want them so - I am afraid -

I hope your work is going well. & be thankful you have enough so you can forget all out doors -

Love to you
Mother
