Tuesday July 1stDear Margaret,
Your letter has been a real satisfaction to me all these days since it came. In the final place I am glad that you physically are so much improved. I hope your Dr. Wallin has a good success with her other patients -
Then I enjoyed Sunday in thinking of you and Allan at Plandowne. [?] I know Rob and his family were happy to have you with them and you would get acquainted with Bradford and Gertrude. It was a pleasure to Aunt Julia too. At this season of the year I judge the place is attractive.
How good to find your work interesting rather than tiresome. Is it not difficult to grade papers?
Of course I got the July Scribner from the library and immediately turned to your articles reading them with interest and wondering if I had been through college and lived in the present age (for to myself I seem only to have lived a century ago) could I have written thus. If you had not so much better work to do, more useful, I would suggest you should write for publication. In the same magazine I read also Mr. Gerould's story. He cannot compete with Katherine in that time. As I am told stories receive more pay than other articles he no doubt is eager to add to his income.
I suppose you have read Bette's story in Harper's. So you like it? She must be very industrious to do what she does in her home and town and write also.
As an expression of welcome to returned soldiers the Fourth is to be a great day in Shrewsbury if what is planned is carried out. In the morning a pageant occupying two hours or more on the common a pageant of the early days. followed by a big dinner for the soldiers and especial friends[.] Luncheon for others who wish to pay for it. followed by addresses in the hall and much music - closing with a dance at night - I do hope the weather may be favorable.
Carrie is in Provincetown for a while - There is a gathering of some artists there and she hopes to do a little work -
We are looking forward rather uncertainly but hopefully for Roy's return home in August - He as well as we are eager for it - I thank you for your hearty invitation to me to spend a part of the autumn with you. I am anticipating it. And Rose I know will only be too happy to go home since she has not been there for four years. Trusting the result of Dr. Wallins success continues
With love.
Aunt Sarah
