A Letter Written on Oct 3, 1937

October 3, 1937

Dad dear -

My biggest apologies to you for being so dumb about September 30th when I knew it was really an important day. Please forgive me - I feel very bad about my thoughtlessness.

Yesterday I cheered Mass. State with Arthur - in vain, for Bowdoin beat it, as had been generally expected. Then Art was awfully nice, - he tactfully excused me from the rest of my date with him (a dance in the evening in the drill shed) so that I might see Ross. We visited Jimmy Stewart and Lindy at Jimmy's fraternity house at Amherst - had supper there and met some nice lads - who live quite palacially (is that the term?). Then Ross came here to the Stude - which was the biggest one I've ever seen; but I expect the dances will get smaller and smaller as usual. Ross went back this morning, and I have no doubt that is the only time he'll be here this year.

Friday night I danced, for the first time since last spring!! An Amherst Chi Psi, who went with Reitz all last year, double dated with me, while Minette nobly consented to be with John - whom you've heard me fuss about because all he does is walk and be boring. I had a grand time - and expect to see Frank again. If Reitz likes him - he's nice!

This morning in church the minister (from Amherst), gave a grand and humorous sermon on combining accuracy and enthusiasm, like Apallus (maybe that is how to spell his name.) of the Acts. I wish he spoke every week, because his Scotch brogue and charm add a lot to his preaching, and he sure knows how to get a point across so you'll remember it. I'll tell you some of his strong sayings sometime!

Mother - I think we'll have a full house Thanksgiving, because I'm sort of planning on Minette and Helen - who say they will entertain themselves. How's about it?

Dinner bell has rung.

Much love to you all,
Barb
