Aug. 12, 1943Dear Marion,
I got your letter and was glad to see all your pictures. They are fine I must say. I liked your "Trojan horse." He is a beauty. Quite expertly decorated, too, with that "mane." And what saucer-eyes!
That must be a very attractive envelope that you have. I would like to see your collection now. It must be a beauty.
There is not much news about Jim MacLean. We haven't heard from him at all since the day he came into the department. You know T. B. Anderson, who used to work in Tab? Well they shifted him to Jack Lienhardt's division. And Verne Pitfield came up to Rita Newman's division to work all last week, because Rita was on vacation. I never knew that he was acquainted with the Rate's division work. But of course he must be.
Did I tell you last time about Kate Bain having a cyst on the bottom of her spine? Well, after the operation she still isn't quite better and the nurse allows her to use a great big soft pillow to sit on. It really is funny.
Helen Bail (now Andrews) who works with Rita - went down to Florida for a week to see her husband. She got back to work yesterday And honest to goodness, Marion, she is actually the color of a negro - she is really that black from tan. Her legs are the color of dark chocolate and her face and arms are almost the same. I never did see a person get tanned like that before. We all left off work and took turns inspecting her legs! And while she was down in Florida, some man came up to her and said he heard she was from Hartford, then someone else came dashing out of the water and said: "What, you from Hartford? Well, so am I. Do you know so-and so?" And then they all discovered that each one had some family or friend connection with the C. General!
I am returning your photos in this letter. [alas, no longer with the letter] You certainly must have had a wonderful time up there? Do you still write to Beverly? In those pictures you resemble your mother very much more than your father. Their photos are nice.
I will close this now.
Goodbye, and let me hear from you soon again.
Love, Josephine.P.S. I let Glory see your pictures, too. She is going to leave next Sat. instead of this Sat.
Josephine.
P.S. Here it is the 23rd. of August, and I haven't posted this letter yet. I am dreadfully behind in all my correspondence. So please, forgive me this time. Glory left Sat. last and on the 20 we gave her a big party. You should have been here!!! Write me soon.
Love,
Josephine.
