June 3rd.Dear Miss Turner;-
I was so sorry to hear from Charlotte that you were still having troubles. I hope that by this time they are better and that you won't be bothered any more! She tells me that you are sailing very soon. Here's hoping you have a fine trip. I had a letter from Hazeltene yesterday. She is still enjoying Europe but is very busy, I think.
I had hoped that we might see you this spring, but that seems impossible now. I am going to give you an absolutely unique invitation for fall - one that wouldn't be extended to any other living person. I was talking to Maggie Tyler soon after she had been to Holyoke and we were more or less joking about your seeing a baby born. And that led to the question of - why not see mine? I wouldn't mind at all & barring accidents, it will probably be easy & snappy, so it would be an ideal one to see. I asked Dr. Stone if he would mind - explaining who you were and that you wouldn't faint or anything like that and he said he wouldn't mind if I didn't. So, if it doesn't happen just as school opens or before you get back, why don't you come? The probable date is Sept 22nd, however, I went overtime with Jimmie and when he was a week overdue, Stoney gave me some castor oil & quinine Saturday morning & J. was born Saturday night. If the same thing happens again, you could make a weekend trip. You're cordially invited, anyway.
Jimmie is fine & cuter every day. Last night he threw himself across my knees as I sat on the davenport. Bill gave his little fat rear a playful slap & Jimmie passed it on to me, giving me a slap in the stomach. Bill said, "Oh - Jimmie - mustn't hit people in the stomach - that hurts. " Says Jimmie, after a minute, "Turn over, mommy." His little leg muscles are as hard as rocks. He jumps all the time. He would make a fine frog.
It is late & I must go to bed.
Best wishes for a good summer & much love -
Betsy.
