Mt. Holyoke College
So. Hadley, Mass.

Dear Exits,
I'm earlier than you, that is most of you. The domaine saved your reputation by writing on time. One of the girls is in here writing up her Physics note book. Luckily she hasn't so much to do as she might have had. Dr. Barnes is to speak this evening. He has spoken here once before.
Last Wedesday [sic], yesterday, I went to Springfield, got a trunk $5.00 and a strap .45 and had them throw in another strap. Then I bought a rain proof garment $7.50 some bananas and lemons .25 and a few other little things. Put $15 in the bank. Expect to draw on Colchester this summer if I need any so you see you needn't send money this way unless you want it banked. The last pay day will be next week and that will get me to Exeter and up the mountain and entertain the 35 year old[s]. I dont mean to imply that all my money was left in Springfield for it wasnt, there's about 5.00 left that is enough for finances. No it isn't, would it be better to take that Colchester money out this spring or next fall. It may be safe there and it mayn't. Arnt we mercenary individuals.
Next week tis my duty to collect wash bills, interesting! then to help Miss Purington get guest rooms ready. I wonder if the 35 year olds have arranged for rooms. Miss Emmonds could probably have a room at the same place you can, at the Days'es in Paradise. The cars run by the door and you wouldn't have to go down all day. Your meals will be here mostly and I think you may be able to come into the building Wed. night dont know yet. Oh! I forgot you can go to Springfield and back for .30, so they say, by getting a transfer at Holyoke.
I went to call on Addie but saw Clinton at his business and he said that she was very sick, didn't expect she would live Saturday, malarial fever and an abcess coming on one side of her head, he said she was much better but no one had been in to see her. They have a good nurse and woman to take care of the house and children. They have moved from Carew St. into a pleasanter tenement.
Rooms were chosen this afternoon. Wish I knew who were to be in my corridor next year, hope they will go to bed early so they wont have to be squelched. You cant imagine the dignity your humble servant can put on.
Is there any thing else you ought to know if there is speak up.
Good Bye -
